Roy A. Ray, 76, of Safford passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016. He was born August 7, 1939 in Englewood, NJ. He was raised in Old Tappan, NJ, the son of Chester & Vivian Ray. He graduated from Trinidad State Junior College with a degree in Gunsmithing. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he set his sights on going west. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, first learning under the guidance of his father and uncles. He and his first wife Myrna, moved to Juneau, AK where he was hired to work as a gunsmith. Years later he moved back to the beautiful mountains of Colorado that he loved so much and finally settled in Ohio City, CO. He enjoyed many years hunting elk and fishing with his friends. He worked for the Gunnison County Road & Bridge Dept and retired after 20 years of service. After retirement he became a snowbird to Safford, AZ where he enjoyed riding his ATV with other friends, exploring the Gila Wilderness area. In 2005 he became a full time resident of Safford. Roy is survived by his wife, Timi of Safford, daughters; Tracy (Nathan) Lanier of Longmont, CO and Julie K. Walker of Safford, three sisters; Joy Ann (Vic) of Old Tappan, NJ, Nancy Levesque of Oxford, ME, and Cindy (Ed) Call of Greene, ME, two special aunts; Doris Duebel of Old Tappan, NJ and Katie Clarke of Greenbush, ME, Step-mother, Pauline Ray of Old Tappan, NJ, seven grandchildren; Jessica Reyes, Erica Lanier, Travis Ray, Jesse Ray, Mike Barber, Christopher Vallery and Gary Walker and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Chet and Vivian Ray, and son David Ray. As per his request there will be no services.
