Salvador “Sal” Estrada, a man of adventurous spirit, contagious humor, and boundless generosity, was born in the small town of Dell City, Texas on July 26, 1960. He was a beacon of love and laughter in the lives of all who were fortunate to know him. Salvador, who passed away on July 31, 2023, was a remarkable individual whose vibrant life story was as colorful and varied as the landscapes of the national parks he served so faithfully. As 1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us, "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." It is this scripture that Salvador held close to his heart as he journeyed through life's ups and downs.
Salvador’s journey took him from his birthplace in Dell City to the heart of Arizona, where he made a significant impact in the communities of Bowie, Willcox, and most recently Safford. He dedicated many years of service as a National Park Ranger, often risking his own safety as a hot shot forest ranger. His adventurous nature was balanced by his love for tranquility found in fishing, hiking, and star gazing. Salvador's generosity extended beyond his professional life, as he volunteered as a firefighter in Bowie, Arizona, and umpired for the local little league and USA Olympics. His love for his family and a good game of pool were the pillars of his life, and he carried his infectious sense of humor everywhere he'd go.
Salvador leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and a legacy that will continue to inspire. He is survived by his children: Nubia (Yovany) Cordero, Salvador Jr, Jessica Moreland, Mateo Estrada, and his step-children Andrew Byars and Nevaeh Byars-Estrada; his grandchildren: Elijah Moreland and Jesse Rodriguez; his father, Jose Estrada; his siblings: Tony (Maria) Estrada, Aurora (Jose) Roman, Patricia (Gabriel) Maldonado, Rosa (Billy) Jurado, Gloria (Eddie) Hernandez, Tomas (Susan) Guillen, Frances (Raul) Moran, Charlie (Josie) Guillen, and Gavino Estrada. He was preceded in death by his mother Maria Estrada, his siblings Maria Washington, Lily Cardenas, Josie Ramirez and Carmen Cardenas(niece) and Tommy Toliver(nephew).
