Sammie Lou Thomas passed away with her family by her side on Friday, October 5th at Tucson Medical Center. Sammie was born on November 20, 1943, in Dodge City, Kansas.
At a young age, she and her family moved to Fillmore, California where she spent her early years as a child. In the 1950's her family moved to Benson, Arizona where her family purchased the San Pedro Valley News Newspaper Printing Press. Sammie graduated from Benson high school. She was very involved in high school playing volleyball, tennis and running track. Sammie was also very active in planning the Benson High School Class Reunions. Sammie spent her last years living in Benson where she developed many community friendships.
Sammie is survived by her husband Bill, her son Eric Walker, her sister Laurie Player and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Sam and Arlene Player and her brother David Player.
A public viewing will be held at McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Home on Thursday, October 11th from 6-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services. Funeral services will be McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel at 11:00 with interment in the Safford Cemetery.
