Samuel P. Snow A Tall Tale Fisherman Samuel Pyne Snow, age 98, passed away February 4, 2008, quietly in his sleep, with family by his side. He was born February 25, 1909 in Provo, Utah to Don Carlos and Sarah Eveline Pyne Snow. He married Carol Tolley Prestwich December 14, 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. Sam lived his entire life in the Orem-Provo area. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was said of Sam that he never missed visiting even one of his home teaching families. He served in the priesthood quorums and in the bishopric throughout his life. Sam was a farmer, working his own farm in Provo and at times assisted his father-in-law, Orson Prestwich, on his farm in Orem. During that time he also worked for the State Hospital in Provo from 1935-59. After working at the hospital for a time he was made dairy manager and eventually farm superintendent. After his retirement from the state, he worked for the Provo School District. He was a state/school employee for 40 years. He was a lover of hard work. When Sam was younger, he played the drums in dance bands, played basketball and baseball in the Provo/Orem leagues and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His favorite was pulling a lunker into his hand-made boat from the Strawberry Reservoir. Other favorite pastimes of Sam were: talking, telling stories of his life, dancing, writing poems and playing the harmonica. Sam and his sweetheart, Carol, were married for 71 years. Their posterity includes four daughters, 17 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters: Nadine Bandley, Taylorsville; LaNiel Nielsen, Cedar Hills. Preceded in death by his wife; daughters: Diana Dalebout and Anetta Johnson; grandsons: Darin and Jeff Dalebout, Gregory Johnson; his brothers and sisters: Valeria Whatcott, Irving Don Snow, Glen Albert Snow, Minnie Crook and Florence Olsen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at the Bonneville 4th Ward, 1289 East 300 South, Provo, where friends may call at the church, 11:00 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Services under the direction of McDougal Funeral home. He lived his life with zest until the end, almost making his 99th birthday!
