Sandra Shipman

April 7, 1950 — March 18, 2022

Sandra J. “Sandy” Shipman Sandy Shipman, 71, of Pima passed away at her home on March 14, 2022. She was a longtime resident of Pima, moving here from Ohio with Scott “Fuzzy” Shipman. They lived on Windblown Trail, surrounded by the desert with spectacular mountain views, for nearly 40 years; Sandy had just moved into town in January. Despite being nearly a straight-A student in high school, Sandy always knew that she wanted to become a professional hair stylist like her mother. Sandy studied under some of the nation’s preeminent hair specialists and was an authority on cuts, colors and keeping hair healthy. While in Ohio, she operated her own studio, Windblown Styles. After moving to Arizona, she worked at various salons in Safford and Thatcher where she had dedicated clients. When Covid temporarily closed the business where she worked in 2020, she adjusted by driving to her clients for in-home care, which they loved. Sandy was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Charles Maxwell and Nora Jean Harrison Maxwell. Her father was a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad, and Sandy fondly remembered him whenever she heard the trains’ horns as they passed close to her Pima house. In her younger years, Sandy was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, riding her own Harley-Davidson with friends in Ohio and Arizona. She was passionate about gourmet cooking and loved trying new gadgets and recipes. Sandy will be missed by her many friends who will always remember her kindness and generosity. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Sue Flaten of Ohio.
