Sherman K. Wood Forever Sherman Keith Wood passed away of congestive heart failure peacefully April 1, 2008 in the loving arms of his family, surrounded by children, grandchildren, and wife, Carol at his side. He was born of George T. and Mary Iris Kenney Wood in West Jordan, Utah on July 25, 1931. Born to a solid farming family, his lifes passion was Dry Farming. He married Carol LaWayne Barker June 7, 1955. He worked for Hercules Powder as a test engineer with great friends for more than 31 years. The out of doors is where he wanted to be spending much of his time frequenting the Woodland area snowmobiling, camping, hunting, and spending time with family. He was highly regarded in the football community and was a fantastic football coach with unique abilities to motivate and train young players to perform at their best, state championships came often. He raised his family in Taylorsville for 43 years among the finest of people, family and friends. He loved the influence that the gospel of Jesus Christ has on his family. His marriage to his sweetheart was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1983. His respect for the military was high and appreciated the freedom the armed forces provide having served defending our great country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He often commented that he wanted his sons to serve as an LDS missionary or in the armed forces because, in his terms, Makes a young man great. He will be dearly missed by all of us that felt the influence of his teachings. Survived by wife, Carol; sons: Rick Wood (Sandy), North Salt Lake; Brett Geo.Wood (Tammy), Herriman; Todd, Taylorsville; daughter, Sheri Barker (Brad), Highland; grandchildren: Sherise Fornelius (Blake), Jenna Farnes, (Trevor), Kacee Wood, Josh Wood (Amy), Shantel Conradi (Chris), Colten Wood, Brock Wood, Brody Barker (Harmony), Chase Barker (LDS Missionary Prague, Czech), Allie Barker, McKinsie Barker, Chandler Wood, Stephanie Wood, Jace Wood, Emily Wood: great-grandchildren: Ashton Fornelius, Brooks Fornelius, Krew Fornelius, Hallie Farnes, Kenzie Farnes, Remington Wood, Capreis Conradi. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 12:00 noon at the Taylorsville Central Stake Center, 4950 South 1950 West. A viewing will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 10-11:30 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
