Shirley Mae Bowman, born on October 25, 1937, in Duncan, Arizona, peacefully passed away on June 7, 2024 in Safford, Arizona. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and joy.
After graduating in 1955, Shirley embarked on a journey that led her to Safford Arizona, where she began her career as a switchboard operator at the telephone company. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Mitchell Bowman. The two were united in marriage in August of 1957 and settled on the Bowman farm in Solomon, Arizona. Their union was blessed with three children - Kristy, Kenneth, and Julie. Shirley's passion for beauty led her to attend beauty school and obtain her beauty license. To support her dreams, Mitchell lovingly built her a beauty salon right at their home.
During her high school years, Shirley's vibrant spirit shone through as an enthusiastic volleyball and tennis player who also found joy in playing in the marching band. Shirley's zest for life extended beyond her professional and educational pursuits; she was a member of the Emblem club and cherished friendships made through her bowling team. A gifted seamstress who delighted in crafting gifts for others, Shirley also enjoyed spending time with loved ones playing cards.
Shirley's legacy of love lives on through those who survive her: her children Kristy (Clay) Gomez and Julie Daly; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. She is now reunited with those who went before her - her husband Mitchell Bowman; son Kenneth; parents Bill and Grace Sprouls; siblings Barbara, Leitaneiln, Annie Ruth, Dorothy Jean, and James (Red).
Shirley Mae Bowman will be remembered for her unwavering love for family, her warmth towards friends, her creativity, and above all, her kind spirit that touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
May she rest in eternal peace knowing that she was cherished beyond measure.
