It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Kitcheyan, affectionately known as Basie, who left this world on February 4, 2025, in Globe, Arizona. Born on November 29, 1965, in San Carlos, Arizona, she brought warmth and laughter to everyone she encountered throughout her journey.
Shirley lived a fulfilling life as a dedicated homemaker whose vibrant spirit inspired those around her. Her outgoing nature, outspoken personality, and immense sense of humor made her a beloved figure among family and friends. She understood the power of joy and was always known for her knack for cheering others up, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of those she loved. Many will remember her as a beautiful, funny, and loving person whose passions included yard cleaning and cooking—often bringing family together with her delightful meals.
A proud graduate of Ft. Thomas High School in 1984, Shirley would later proudly attend memorable events, including her favorite—seeing George Strait in concert. This accomplishment stands as a testament to her vibrant spirit and love for life.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Victor Tex Kitcheyan, and their children: Tasha, Rodney, Kelvin, Joe-Kel, and Mikayla. She also cherished her role as a grandmother to six grandchildren and was a proud dog mom to her Shih-Tzu, Roger. Her siblings, Margie (Clifford) Lang, Esther (Talbot) Upshaw, Dorothy (Valentine) Henry, Terry (Cordella) Moses, Velda (Peterson) Harvey, and Vonda Moses, carry her memory in their hearts, each sharing the unique bond of family that she valued immensely.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Hazel Moses; her brothers Gerald and Roger Moses; and sisters Geraldine and Evelyn Moses. Her god-daughter, Kylie Begay, also mourns the loss of the cherished woman who played such a significant part in her life.
Visitation and memorial services will be held at the Kitcheyan residence in Bylas, Arizona, beginning on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at the Boys & Girls Club in Bylas on Saturday, February 15 at 1:00 p.m., and burial at Black Point Cemetery on the same day.
