Sonny Ely

Biography Sonny Ely, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Tucson Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 11, 1941 in Silver City, NM, to John Harvey Ely and Mary Jane Ezell. His mother passed away during childbirth and Sonny was raised by his Paternal Grandparents Art and Etta Woolsey. Sonny lived a full life and enjoyed having many adventures with his family and friends. He passed away just as he had lived, doing things his way. He leaves behind many friends and a wonderful legacy. He survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Renate; his children, Carlos and Lucy Leon, Allen and Paula Bingham, Sean and Tammy Ely, Michele and Shawn Haralson; his grandchildren, Loreto and Francisco Leon, Daniel, Jonanthon, and Chase Bingham, Samantha and Justin Ely, Ryan Whitney and Sydney Haralson; his brother and greatest friend, Gary Ely, and his wife Darcy and their children, Jacob, Josh, Cary Ann, and Wesley; his sisters, Susan (Bob) Calfee, Janet, Judy, and Joan and mother in law Anni Henkel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Solomon LDS Church. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 23, from 6-8 p.m. at the McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery.
