Stewart Thedeus Jones went Home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on August 6, 2015, at age 89. He was born December 27, 1925 in Solomonville, AZ, to Perry and Katherine Jones. He endured many years as Alzheimers disease eventually won the battle. Stewart lived a full and interesting life as a cowboy, the Flying V Ranch owner, and working with his Aunt Lil on the Big Lou Ranch in the mountains as a line rider. That was a joy, as he really liked the out-of-doors, surrounded by Gods beauty. He left the ranching life and moved to Clifton because of school for his three children. He went to work for Phelps Dodge until he retired at age 62. He was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Clifton, and very active in the ministry with children, until he moved to Safford, he then joined the Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene when he married. Stewart attended Duncan High School and played on the football team during his four years there. He was a member of the Odd Fellows in Clifton for many years and enjoyed the service that was a big part of it. He was inducted into military service, the U. S. Army, received his basic training at Ft. Leonardwood and was discharged as a Corporal. This was during the Korean War. Stewart was not into hobbies but enjoyed hiking the mountains on the ranch and Mt. Graham. He explored the areas of the old settlers in the mountains between Three Way and Mule Creek. Round up and branding time found him on his Aunts ranch working with men from a neighboring ranch gathering the cattle and branding. It was hard work, but he enjoyed it, and there was plenty of good eats. He is survived by his wife, Ruth L. McCullough, of 31 years, son Charles (Debbie) Jones, daughter Cheryl Jones (Jim) Gibbons, step-son Michael Anderson, and grandson James Elmer Gibbons. Preceding him in death was his father, Perry Thedeus Jones (1886-1949), mother, Katherine Cutler Wood Jamison (1917-1999), stepfather, Marvin Jamison (1904-1963), son, Walter Jones (1958-2001), siblings; Margaret Jones Prestridge (1917-1991), Charles Perry Jones (1919) and Charlotte Jones Phillips (1928-1976). Memorial services for Stewart will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Johnny Wilson conducting.
