Sylvia Carrasco

Sylvia G. Carrasco, 90, of Safford Arizona passed away on Thursday July 20, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born February 21, 1927 in Metcalf Arizona to Vidal Gomez of Santander Spain and Jessie Grijalva of San Jose, Arizona. Sylvia grew up in Solomonville, AZ. Sylvia graduated from Safford High in 1945. She continued her education by taking business courses at Eastern Arizona College. Sylvia worked as a business woman and worked along-side her husband at The Valley Market for 45 years. Sylvia served her community through her work with the American Legion Auxiliary, Beneficio Propio and volunteering at the Lafe Nelson School. She also served on the Eastern Arizona College Board of Trustees for 8 years. Sylvia enjoyed gardening and fishing, but she truly had a passion for traveling. Sylvia was much loved and will be missed. She is survived by her beloved four children: Bobbie Carrasco (Micha) of Santa Monica, CA, Felix Carrasco (Karen) of Chandler, AZ, Louie Carrasco of Tucson, AZ, and Jim (Teresita) also of Tucson AZ; and her much loved eight grandchildren, Jenny Carrasco, Kari Desruisseaux (Chris), Alexa Carrasco (Juan), Derrick, Paxton, Ethan, Jason, and soon to be born grandson, Alexander. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert L. Carrasco, three brothers; Vidal, Alfonso and Robert, and one sister, Lydia, daughter-in-law, Linda Carrasco and grandson Michael. A viewing and visitation will be held at McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel, 112 E. Main Street on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday July 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 311 Central Avenue. Interment will be completed at Safford Cemetery following the services.
