Thomas Rollo Colvin entered into eternal rest at the age of 79 on April 21, 2023 at the VA Hospital in Tucson, AZ, with his loving wife and family by his side. Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was well-known in the community and he will be greatly missed.
Thomas was born on August 17, 1943 to Thomas Harold Colvin and Etha Levora (Marvin) Colvin. He was one of six children, and he was born and raised in Eden, AZ. “Tommy aka Red” was baptized in the LDS Church and he received his formal education in Pima, AZ. Tommy had a passion for fast cars, singing and playing guitars.
On June 8, 1963, Thomas married Harriet Virginia Lacy in Safford, AZ. In March 1966, he was drafted to serve in the US Army, Vietnam War. In January 1968, Tom was honorably discharged and returned home to Eden, AZ, where he was greeted by his wife and infant daughter. Through the years, Tom and Harriet were blessed with four more children, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Tom was a hard-working jack-of-all-trades, who always had a project going. He was a skilled carpenter, plumber, electrician, mechanic…you name it - there wasn’t much he couldn’t do. Tom retired from the AZ State Prison Complex in 2001 as a Building Maintenance Supervisor. He was also a member of the Safford Elks Lodge and American Legion Swift Murphy Post 32.
Tom enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and riding his side by side. Tom and Harriet spent several summers in Alpine, AZ - sometimes working at the Big Lake Store. Tom appreciated his daily coke breaks with Davis, and his frequent lunch dates with family. Tom adored his family - he was always willing to drop everything for a BBQ, card/dice game or corn hole tournament. Most importantly, Tom looked forward to his nightly back road cruise with his sweetheart of 60 years.
Tom leaves behind his wife, Harriet Colvin; his children, Michelle Pratt (Mark), Lisa Hamilton, Mindy Young, Tomi Umphres (Mitchel), and Colby Melton (Heather); 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Tom was greeted in Heaven by his parents, T.H. “Shem” and Levora Colvin; his siblings, Madge Lofgreen-Moffett, Dorothy Colvin, Jay Dee Colvin, Pearl Cauthen, and Mildred McGregor.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the McDougal’s Caldwell Funeral Chapel, with services beginning at 3:00 p.m.; Honor Guard/Taps will conclude the services.
