Tomasa Serna Gomez, known as Tommie to family and friends, was granted her Victory on June 14, 2012, at University Medical Center in Tucson, after a brief illness. She left peacefully with her family at her side giving her comfort and love. Tommie was born in Guthrie, AZ, on December 22, 1932 to Melecio and Maria (Hernandez) Serna. She was raised and lived in Morenci most of her life and resided in Safford at the time of her passing. On February 18, 1950 she married Gonzalo (Chalo) Gomez. She was a devoted wife and cared for her husband at home for his last nine year as he battled Alzheimers disease until his passing in 2006. She also dedicated her life to her sons, Bobby, David, Tommy, and their families. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, each having a special place in her heart. She also loves the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, brothers, Melecio Chito, Antonio Tony, Frank Pancho Serna and a sister Carmen Ulibarrui. Tommie is survived by her sons, Bobby (Debbie), David (Patsy), Tommy (Jacque), sisters Cruz Cookie Martin and Rosie Price. Also surviving her are nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-grand-child. Everyone knew Tommie for her delicious cooking, she also loved working on her yard and having a spic and span home. We love you and will miss you dearly sister, mom, grandma, and friend. The love you have shown us as well as the memories you have given us will remain in our hearts forever. We would like to thank her many friends for the love and support they have shown her over the years. The gift of friendship has not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. Services for Tommie will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Safford Church of God, 901 S. Central Ave. Safford. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery. Please join the family for a luncheon at the SAFFORD American Legion Following the Interment. Located at 5315 S. 11th Ave. in Safford, next to the Firth Park and the Chamber of Commerce.
