Velo J. Barrett 1925 ~ 2009 Velo J. Barrett (J.R.), 83, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 17, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. J. R. was born October 23, 1925, in Provo, Utah to Zella Childs and Joseph Velo Barrett, the second of three children. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married his eternal companion, Esther Barthel December 4, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He loved working with his hands, building crafts and sharing his creations with others. There was nothing he could not build or repair. He enjoyed golfing and loved playing games with his family and good friends. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served for many years in different positions in the ward and stake. He is survived by his wife of 62 years; four children; Susan M. Gudmundson (Richard), Kim J. Barrett (Jackie), Sandra L. Crosby (Steven), Janet L. Andersen (Rodney); 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. K.C. Barrett. Preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Special thanks to Cori and the staff of Hospice for their support and tender care, and the loving care of doctors and nurses from the Huntsman Cancer Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 4th & 38th building, 4310 South 3200 West, West Valley City where friends may call at the same location Friday, August 21, 2009, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
