Vera Lines Sanders was born February 26, 1925 in Pima Arizona, she was the 6th child born to Alvin and Allie Stinson Lines. She was born on the family farm along with her brothers and sisters, Wilton, Doyle, Kenneth, Chloe, Flora, Emalene and Alene. In high school Vera went out for all sports, volleyball, softball, basketball and tennis. She made the starting line up in all of the sports for each of the four years of high school. They were unbeaten in all of the four years. Even after high school Vera continued to play softball and volleyball with the city league and church teams. In 1940, a bunch of Veras friends were at the river on a picnic; Bryce Sanders was home on leave from the army and he was in the group. He picked Vera up and pretended that he was going to throw her in the river; they started dating. Bryce and Vera decided to get married when he got home from overseas. On December 31 1944 he got home and on January 1, 1945 they were married in Thatcher. Vera worked at Safeway for 6 years and then had the opportunity to go to work at General Utilities in Pima on February of 1961. Vera worked there until December 30 1986 and took retirement at the age of 62. Bryce and Vera enjoyed serving together in the Mesa Arizona Temple for several years. On June 4, 2004 Bryce passed away due to Parkinsons. They had been married 59 years. It was a very hard time for Vera; but she had a lot of good memories of the time that they were together. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by the many people she touched. Vera passed away on April 9, 2010 in Safford, Arizona. She is survived by her son Scott (Jane); her daughter Linda (Ron) Morrison; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, sister Alene Weech and brother Wilton Lines. Vera was preceded in death by her daughter Arlene Robison, husband Bryce Sanders and siblings Doyle, Kenneth, Chloe Skinner, Flora Norton, & Emalene Mulleneaux. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Thatcher LDS Stake Center by Bishop Ron Howard. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Thatcher Stake Center and one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Hubbard Cemetery.
