Verna Colvin

April 11, 1931 — August 7, 2011

Verna Colvin passed away August 7th, 2011 -- 2 months after her loving husband Bob Colvin, with whom she was married for 62 years. She lived in the valley for her entire life. She wore many hats two of them were as an excellent mother and wife. In this role she was a 4H leader and taught horsemanship, cooking and sewing for her children. She saw that they had piano, dance, swimming, accordion lessons and she worked in the LDS primary and young women. Other hats she wore were as a bookkeeper for six enterprises at one time, geology enthusiast, author and contributor to many local historical books. Her passion was learning; her home was filled with books. In 1981 she wrote The Garden and How It Grew, a history of Eden. She was appointed by Governor Fife Symington to the State Historical Records Advisory Board. She was an officer and working member of the Eastern Arizona Museum. She graduated as valedictorian at her Jr. High, Thatcher High School and Eastern Arizona College. She was the secretary and active member of the Womens Republican Party. With Bob, she did fundraisers, fought with government agencies to get a drinking water supply and improve the Eden Graveyard. She is survived by her children Lindy Lewis (Kirk), Jay Dee Colvin (Brenda), Gary Colvin (Candy), 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her brothers and sisters are Brent Cluff (Raydene), Leisel McBride (Gary), Jeanne Merrill (Bob) and Frances Campbell (Dick). Funeral sevices will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Old Pima LDS Church. Friends may call on Friday, August 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Eden Cemetery.
