Walter J. Bird Jr. Curly TAYLORSVILLE, UT - Walter Jay Bird, Jr. passed away August 25, 2010 just hours prior to his 64th wedding anniversary. Born March 3, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Jay and Martha Peterson Bird. Married Jean Bridge August 26, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah; solemnized May 19, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Veteran of WWII and Korean Conflict. Attended Utah Technical College (now SLCC) and retired as a mechanic from the Post Office Garage. Active member of the LDS Church, last serving eight years at the Jordan River Temple and four years as a Tabernacle Usher. Enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. Survived by wife, Jean; children: Pamela (Val) Wilson, of Virginia; Kristine (Terry) Higbee, of Taylorsville; and Sidney (Tricia) Bird, of Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Bird. Preceded in death by sister, Erma; granddaughter, Melissa Higbee; grandson, Rick Bird. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice for their kindness. Funeral services will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where viewings will be Sunday, 6-8 p.m. and Monday, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
