Walter Matern

Walter Edwin William Matern 1927 ~ 2010 Walter E. W. Matern passed away October 14, 2010 at age 83. He was the oldest of three children: Walter, Ray (Eula) Matern, Bertha (Doc) Sandlin, born to Kurt and Martha Matern on April 26, 1927. He was married to Nellie Allgaier for 33 years until her passing in 1977. Together they had seven children: Janet Scott, Marsha Rush, Sandra West, Bruce (Marline), Paul (preceded in death), Jo Ann (Matt), Mace and Helen Jelitto. Then he married Mary Mabey (preceded in death in 2008). Together they were married 30 years and brought three step children to our family: Susan (Phillip), Dan (Marge), Scott (Laura). He leaves behind 28 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. He loved fishing, deer hunting and camping with his family. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 20, 1:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where a viewing will be held 11-12:45 p.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
