Wayland Parker Wood, 82, of Safford, rode off into the sunset on July 24, 2012. He was born on July 30, 1929 in Carrizozo, New Mexico and was one of five rowdy sons raised on New Mexico ranches to Albert C. and Marry Ann Wood. As a young man he worked the ranches in New Mexico and Southern Arizona. He met his wife Carolin on the beloved Y Lightning Ranch in Hereford, Arizona. They were married and had two children; Bucky and Bonnie Gale. He then went to work for Phelps Dodge in Bisbee where most knew him best as Woody. He became a precision machinist and worked in the shops at Bisbee until being transferred to Safford in 1971. He retired from Safford Mine and spent the rest of his life in Safford. For a man with very little school education he could master anything he put his mind to. He was a self taught carpenter, plumber, electrician, mechanic, machinist and best of all Dad and Grandpa. No one could bring a smile to his face as his Grandchildren could. Wayland was preceded in Death by his parents; brothers, Clay and Bill; his son, Buck Parker Wood and great-nephew Chase Clemson. He is survived by his wife Carolin; his daughter, Bonnie Ferguson; grandchildren, Jacob (Stacia) Ely, Josh (Tennielle) Ely, Bobbie Ferguson, Sarah (Curtis) Graves, Jessica Wood and seven great-grandchildren. A celebration of Waylands life will be held at a later date.
