William "Bill" Cowan, 81, passed away on January 11, 2017 at UMC in Tucson with his family at his side. Bill was born in Boston, MA to Willi8am and Mary Cowan on July 16, 1935.
Bill enlisted in the US Army when he was 18. After completing his service her returned to high school and graduated from Newton High School in 1958. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 25 years. He was stationed all over the country: Dansbury CT, El Reno OK, Ashland KY, Safford AZ, Alderson WV and Pleasanton CA.
Bill and Nancy retired in 1985 and returned to the beautiful Arizona desert. Bill loved his job but he really loved his retirement. He loved to go camping with his friends and traveling across the country to visit old friends. He always had a funny story to tell. Bill's sense of humor, Boston accent, storytelling ability and at times, outrageous behavior, will be remembered aby his friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Cowan of Newton, MA and many beloved friends.
Bill is survived by his wife Nancy, brothers; Richard and Robert, sons; Bill and Andrew and daughter Anne (Max) Hinton, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bill, "Papa", will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
