William Burdette Shafer He waved his last good-bye A king of a man, our beloved Bill, has left this earth. Due to the loving care of many individuals he was able to remain in his home, passing peacefully with the rising sun, on September 18, 2008. He began his life adventure on October 27, 1928, the youngest of eight children born to Clifford Alvin and Elizabeth Lillie Rupp Park Shafer, in Granger, Utah. He was extremely proud of his heritage and home and devoted himself to enriching the lives of all he touched. He grew up on the family farm in Granger where he learned to be a hard worker. As a young man he enjoyed boxing, softball and hunting. After graduating from Granite High School, he worked for Bennett Paint Co. where he met his bride, Billie Imogene Watters. He later became a nationally recognized, award winning salesman for International Harvester Company. His keen intelligence, remarkable sales skills and visionary nature, served him as an entrepreneur and successful businessman. He became the founder and president of Timbercrafts of Utah, continuing to win national recognition in the Pallet Industry. An avid outdoors man and nature lover, he was a long time member and former president of North Pointe Duck Club. There he enjoyed many years and countless memories with all of his hunting buddies. His passion of nature was instilled in all of his children and grandchildren. Bill was a devoted nurturer, demonstrated by his love of animals, conviction to ensuring his loved ones were taken care of, and to many, a discrete supporter of their needs. Generous, loving, proud, strong, courageous and remarkably funny, are but a few of the words that aptly describe this man. Bill loved his life and he lived it well. The legacy he leaves are his love, values and precious memories. Bill is survived by sister, Lila Wendell; his devoted spouse of 58 years, Jean Shafer; three children: Nancy (Stephen) Clark, Ogden; William Bryan (Vickie) Shafer, West Valley City; Jill Shafer, Marysville, CA; grandchildren: Chad and Clayton Charlesworth, Breeann Markham, Brett Shafer, Gabriel and Erin Shafer-Sorensen; great-grandchildren: Clayton Jr. and Alyssa Jean. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and special thanks to his wonderful care givers, his angels on earth, Caroline, Dollie and Pedro, and the excellent team from CareSource Hospice, especially nurse Yolanda.
