William Bill Doyle Shelton 1929 ~ 2008 William Doyle Shelton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away surrounded by loved ones May 15, 2008 from complications following heart surgery. He leaves behind a posterity that will be forever grateful and blessed for his life and legacy. Bill came into this world November 15, 1929 in Standardville, Utah to William and Harriet Shelton. He lived most of his young life in the mining towns of Standardville and Price before moving with his family to Salt Lake City. He graduated from West High School, with a group of friends know as The Bachelors, who stayed close throughout their lives. He cherished their friendship and lifetime relationships. After graduation he served an LDS mission to the Eastern States where he spent most of his service in New York State. He continued to serve in the church throughout his life in many capacities including bishopric counselor, financial clerk, home teacher and temple worker for many years in both the Jordan River and Provo temples. His testimony of the Savior is a part of his life we will all carry with us throughout the eternities. Before his mission Bill met a beautiful young girl named Joanne Sartor. Luckily, she was still around when he returned and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple October 2, 1952. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage; living in Salt Lake, Taylorsville and eventually in Spanish Fork after his retirement from church employment. Bill enjoyed his retirement years and the time it gave him to work in the temple, take care of his yard, work as a school crossing guard, and to participate in his favorite hobby of pitching horseshoes. Bills greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Joanne, Spanish Fork; children: Mark (Sue), Salt Lake City; Larry (Jennifer), Layton; Dianne (Doug) Mendenhall, Mt. Pleasant; Kaye (LaVar) Jolley, Firth, ID; Lee (Marjorie), Thornton, CO; John (Shauna), Lindon; Susan (Dale) Phelps, Spanish Fork; son-in-law, Don (Rachelle) Glenn; 47 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ona Goff; and lifetime friends: Dave and Norma Haslem, Shirley Robinson, Laura Jean VanBibber and Judy Halford. Bill is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jolene; sisters: Glenda (James) Fassio, Lorna, and Margaret (Loren Johnstun); 3 grandchildren; and close friends: Jack Robinson, Ernie VanBibber and Dave Halford. We can only imagine the joyful reunion that took place with his passing. Dad, we look forward to the time we will also be reunited with you and will miss you more than words can say. Thank you for your life of love, faithfulness and sacrifice. We are all blessed for the life you led. The family wishes to thank all those who loved our Dad and took care of him during this difficult time.
