Willie Mullen

Willie Dean Chocky Mullen, 73, of Safford, Az. passed away peacefully on March 30th, 2012 in his home. He was born in Safford, Az. to Verdina and William Mullen in September 20,1938. Chocky joined the Arizona National Guard at the age of 17. Through the National Guard he was sent to various schools and training centers. During his time with the National Guard he joined the Sea Bec's in order to be deployed to Vietnam where he spent one year. At the end of his service he had served a of total of 34 years, he retired as Chief Warrant Officer II. Chocky went on to work for Arizona Department of Transportation for 20 years. During his career with ADOT, he held many positions, finally retiring as Supervisor of the Welding Sign Shop. Also during his life he was very active and served as AFL CIO President for his Local. He held many positions with the American Legion such as Commander of Post 32 and 5th District Commander. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skydiving, woodworking, and welding. He was also the President of the National Wildlife Federation. He met and married the love of his life Jo Ann Mullen in 1974 and they were married for a total of 37 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Verdina Mullen, a brother, Clinton Mullen, and a son, Ross Mullen. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Mullen, his son Steven (Elizabeth) Mullen, and daughter Diane Bonine. He is also survived by his stepchildren; Linda (Craig) Bergener, Nelda (Donald) Mann, Reed (Terry) Guymon, Joan (Mel) Stegall, Susan Monzingo, Janet Guymon, and Shelly ONeal. He had 24 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
