Wilmer Stephens

March 14, 1952 — October 31, 2017

Wilmer Nelson "Billy" Stephens, passed away October 31, 2017 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born to Elda May Spillers and William "Bill" Stephens on March 14, 1952 in Phoenix, Arizona. He spent most of his childhood in Duncan. He travelled some and lived in New Mexico, Arkansas, and Nevada for a while, but spent most of his life in the Gila Valley. Billy proudly served with the Greenlee County Sherriff's Office, the Duncan Police Department, and the Lordsburg Police Department. He drilled wells with his father and worked off and on at the mine. He was quick to forgive anything and help anyone in need. Billy eventually learned to admit that despite being a Stephens, he wasn't perfect. He loved camping and spending time outside. Wilmer was always more at home when there were no walls to hold him in and the only schedule was when the fish were biting. He lived hard, loved big, and laughed lots but wasn't afraid when his time came. Billy will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Survived by mom Wanda Stephens, sisters; Cheryl (Frank) Fox, Erline Norton, Kathy (Billy) Lackner, brothers; George Claridge, Gary (Julie) Hall, brother-at-arms; John Chaff, his daughters; Meleesa (Daniel) Town, Jess (Jesse) Campos, Auendrea Reynolds and Elizabeth Weston. He was loved and adored by all his grandchildren; Marcus, Angelica, Kayla, Brianna, Martin, Emmaleigh, Ian, Khloe, Samantha, Wrylynn, and Kylie, as well as entire communities of cousins, nieces, nephews and non-blood family members and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; Elda and Bill Stephens, a baby sister, brother; Frank Edwards, and daughter Kristi Tibbit. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the Upper Twilight campground on Mt. Graham.
