Woodrow Burnham

Woodrow Arden Burnham 1918 ~ 2009 Woodrow Arden Burnham, age 90, passed away due to complications associated with age on April 4, 2009 in Bountiful. Born July 3, 1918 in Brigham City, Utah to Wallace Clinton and Anna Kim Burnham. Arden was a graduate of Box Elder High School in 1936. He attended Utah State University, graduating with a degree in chemistry in 1941. After graduation he was drafted into the army, and began military service. During World War II, he served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany before being discharged in 1946 as a first lieutenant. In 1946, he married Margaret Lois Lee, and continued his education by obtaining his masters degree in civil engineering from Stanford University in 1949. During his career, he worked in Washington, California and Utah and lived the last 10 years of his life in Pocatello, Idaho. He worked in the aeronautical and aerospace industries before his final career with the Utah Department of Transportation. Following retirement in 1985 he continued to work part-time utilizing his engineering skills. Arden appreciated the ability to work, was grateful for the opportunity to contribute and for the many friends he made during his life. Arden was an avid jogger. He would regularly jog two to five miles a day up until the age of 86, when a stroke slowed him down. His son, Scott, once remarked that he had worn out three boys and as many dogs while jogging. Arden served many years as a leader in the Boy Scouts, being recognized with some of the highest awards in Scouting. He also served on the Farmington City Planning Commission. Arden is remembered by his family for his kind and patient manner. He loved the outdoors, and spending time with his family. He was always an example of honesty and integrity to his sons. He did not know how to speak harshly to others. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Lois Burnham; three sons, Paul (Danielle) of Sacramento, CA; Scott (Marilee) of Pocatello, ID; and Robert (Leeann) of Farmington, UT; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; 15 brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be Friday, April 10, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at the Farmington City Cemetery, 500 South 200 East. Services under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
